Did I get the wrong blank

So I just recieved my point Blank PB761 MHF that I ordered to make a pitching stick, mostly for 1/4 ounce bullet weights and creature baits and up to 1/2 jigs. i have always used a medium heavy rod for this but this blank seems a little flimsy in the tip. Will it stiffen up with the guides placed on or did I get the wrong blank. Hoping not the latter.

Guides will soften, not stiffen, the rod. I have no idea what a "medium heavy" rod is and doubt there is any precise definition nor measurement for that term either, so you have to accept the idea that "medium heavy" can envelop a wide range of rod powers. It may simply be different than what you are used to while being perfectly capable of casting the weight range it lists.

I would suggest contact Anglers Resources and asking Jim or Donnie about the issue. They're very knowledgable and likely determine if you got the correct blank or not with just a few questions.

Unless there's been some kind of mix-up, sounds to me like you ordered the right blank.

The tip section of the Point blanks, where the casting takes place, are flexible but quickly transition to a powerful butt section. This flexible tips really does allow the rod to effectively load with a wide range of lure weights. You will be quite surprised with the wide lure weight range the PB761MHF will cast, and just how powerful this blank is. The flexible tip and powerful butt is one of the reasons Point Blanks have a unique feel about them, and they never feel tip heavy.

Thanks Norman, you want to give me the guide layout for this one, using alps mvt reel seat with rear of seat 10" from end of butt of rod., I am using the 60 120 180 spiral and a RV 6 stripper with 3 KB 5 and the rest KT 5.

Do a little more reading. No offense, but your questions have been answered and re- answered on the forum. Also in regard to Point Blanks, if they felt the same as blanks we've been used to feeling over the years they wouldn't be Point Blanks. They truly are a step up in my opinion.

Keith just follow the procedure I gave you in your previous post concerning this blank. So should have no problem, it’s only 3”” longer than your previous rod.

Rod blank manufacturers provide a wide variety of information about their product in addition to length and weight. They reveal information such as "lite"," light", "medium", "medium heavy", "heavy", "fast", "smooth", "responsive", "powerful", "tough", "accurate", and "soulful". You could check and see which of these descriptions fit the blank you bought.

Phil, Point Blanks also supply objective CCS data, which very few other companies do. Give them credit for that.

Thanks, Norman. I did not know that. Kudos to Point Blanks. I hope P.B. shames other blank vendors into providing useful information about their blanks instead of the ignorant hype which dominates the advertising of blank and rod vendors.
