Been wanting to try rare earth magnets on my thread wrapper but can not find any info on what size to use, I’ve looked at several photos of wrappers with magnets and they appear to all be different sizes. Could really use some help on what size to get ( diameter, thickness, pull force, plating) and where to purchase. Thanks Re: Rare Earth Magnets

These are the ones I used for my tensioner:
[www.apexmagnets.com] These are brittle - so treat them gently. Hard to do when the go rogue ue and attach to all iron around. Of course you have to install them on the stainless 1/4" threaded rod OPPOSED to each other. I used two on each side - total of 4. Two "pushing" left - two "pushing" right. A @#$%& to get appart if you do it incorrectly. Herb CTS Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 06/28/2020 09:41AM by Herb Ladenheim. Re: Rare Earth Magnets

Frank,
FYI, I used 2 magnets on each side. Best to tape both "2 pack" together so they don't run amuck. Herb Re: Rare Earth Magnets

What is the advantage of using rare earth magnets over springs as thread tensioner? Re: Rare Earth Magnets

Some say it will make the thread run off smoother, I have the CRB with the fiberglass rod and I really hated how inconsistent the thread came off with the springs. I find the magnets are not perfect but they are way way smoother then the springs, it’s really worth a try for the cost. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
