Butt over tip ferrules

I’m building a rod on a older Lamiglas graphite rod blank, an 8’ 6” 6/7 2 piece rod. It has a graphite butt over tip ferrule, should I do a thread wrap over the whole ferrule? Most of the rods I’ve done are all tip over butt, how common was the use of a butt over tip ferrule? Re: Butt over tip ferrules

Tip into butt ferrules are not self adjusting for wear and are typically found on less expensive rods. Although, some manufacturers have used these on particular models, most notably surf, with a bit of a reverse taper on the inside (CTS) so they will adjust as they wear. It depends on the manufacturer but I'd wrap the butt section just as you would do to the female ferrule on a tip over butt ferrule.

Tom thanks for your response. I have another question about a butt over tip ferrule. If a guide ends up on the ferrule is it ok to have it land on the ferrule or should it be moved? What do think thanks again. Carl Re: Butt over tip ferrules

You can leave it on the ferrule, or simply move it up or back by maybe an inch or so. Not a big deal.
