Can you add another coat of epoxy weeks after the first coats?

I'm a novice builder. Some of my initial rods have epoxy on the guides that now looks terrible, uneven, pinholes, some bubbles, etc. I'd like to go back over the rods and improve the finish on the epoxy. The rods have 2 coats on already. Is this 3rd "corrective" coat possible? If so, any recommendations or tricks of the trade to know on going over older epoxy?

ALso, Is there a better brush to use for epoxy than the el cheapo's you get from Mudhole? Can you clean the epoxy off and reuse?

Do you folks recommend a lite or high build epoxy?

You can add coats of epoxy any time. Use a abrasive pad to dull the surface. Just a little. Better to use lite rather than high build since it already has epoxy on it. All I use is lite. I like square tip artist's brushes from Hobby Lobby, never the cheapos you mentioned.

Patrick,
No point in adding another layer of epoxy to make the rod heavier.

As time went by, after first starting to build, I had the same issue. i.e I was not pleased with the appearance of some of my first rods.

So, I went to each rod, stripped off each guide, cleaned up the epoxy by using a single edged razor blade held at 90 degrees to the blank and re wrapped the guides.

Then, added finish in the new improved method that I had learned from experience and enjoyed the new appearance of the rods.

10-4 on the cheap brushes, our brushes are disposable but great quality. We have them made domestically for higher quality. The bristles are extra fine and cut to ?" to work as a squeegee to easily control the flow of the finish.

I use a spatula. Learned from the one and only Ralph O’Quinn how to do it. Faster and cleaner than a brush.
