Has anybody put a split grip handle on a downrigger rod and if so how well did it work and how well did the pole Ancor in place while in the rod holder or did it flip out of position.

There would be little advantage in using a split grip on a rod intended to be fished from a rod holder. In fact, a complete grip tends to protect the rod blank from the holder, depending on what type of holder you're using.

Because I only build spiral wraps for downrigger/trolling rods, the rod never never spins while trolling. It's locked in sold by the guide orientation.

Also, do yourself a favor and use a Slick Grip for the rear. Comes out of the holder much better.
