Broke rod.

I broke my favorite worm rod this morning and am sick about it. I've been using it for several years and reached down to get the worm off a log and snapped 3" off the tip. It was a Rainshadow blank IMMWS62MXF with Minima guides. The rod and reel weighed less than 10 oz and I used it several times a week here in FL. Does anyone know if there's going to be a sale on those blanks in the near future. Thanks

Alex

Trim back the end of the blank until it is sound, remove the last guide, install a tip and go fishing, I think you will be in for a surprise.

Good luck
John

I think the surprise might be that that 3 inches you lost was very important to the enjoyment of the rod. I would do as suggested above, because it may fill a need in your inventory, but I would not expect the same rod after losing 3 inches of the tip.

i don,t think an extra fast tip makes a good worm rod, too soft..it,s probably a better worm rod now like John,s thinking..

Alex,
You can easily repair the rod for catching many more fish.

Please don't remove three inches and expect it to be at all the same rod.

Just do and inner and outer fiberglass sleeve with a thread wraps on the ends of the over sleeve and you will be good to go.

3 inches off the tip will result in a rod that feels and acts entirely different than what you had before. But, there is no harm in putting a tip on and seeing if you can find some use for it in the new configuration.

Forgot to say I broke 1 1/2" from the tip a few months after I built and just added a new tip. The extra fast part was pretty much gone. I use the rod with 6 lb mono or fluorocarbon for finesse fishing with a 4" worm and could feel a pebble on the bottom in 20'. Think I'll just get another blank.

Get another blank. I'd still put a tip on the broken one. Might be the best (?) rod you ever had.

It is a minimum effort to put on a tip and try it. If it falls short of your expectations then give it to some youngster who will appreciate it. It has to be better than the $19.95 Wal-mart special that the parents may give him/her.

You can repair the rod rather easily and it will fish like it's never been broken if you do it correctly .
