Question for Anglers Resource on Point Blank
Posted by: Keith Langford (---)

What would be your suggestion for a Point Blank Spinning rod used for shakey head and dropshotting, I would like one in 7'3" if possible. Typically use 1/8-1/4 oz shakey heads and drop shot weights. It will have 10lb braid and 8lb fluro leader.Thank you.

Keith,
Are you sure you want one rod for both techniques? Generally a shakey head rod has more power than a drop shot stick.

It looks like you could use PB73ML, or PB70LXF, or PB70MLF. All would work well. The ML rods are more powerful than most other blanks labeled as dropshop blanks from other companies.

Good Point Thomas, as I do currently have separate spinning rods for both, with the drop shot being lighter just as you mentioned, so darn I will have to build 2. With that being said I rephrase my question to what would be the best for each one. Thank you

I have posed this question to our pro, Kyle Welcher. Kyle is building on POINT Blank and using them on the ELITE Tour. Seems like that should be good feedback. I will ppost as soon as I hear from him.

I would probably say the 7ft ML

I have it and the 73 ML and 73m, i feel the 7ft is a better bottom contact type rod, the 73ml is more parabolic i like it for jerkbaits

I just started fishing my new PB701MLF and I think it would work fine for both techniques. I have the 731MXF built as a cast and I think it's too powerful for drop shot. I think it will work, but it's probably not the optimum. Look at the CCS numbers in the detailed specs and consider the CCS comparisons when the Pro reports back. Keep in mind that while the 701MLF is more powerful than some rods called Medium power, like the St Croix SC570MF, it's a different kind of power. Point Blanks have lighter tips then get into the powerful mid sections quite quickly. I think they are as a result more versatile than most other rods.

Kyle Welcher is using the PB701MLF for drop shotting and the PB701MF for Shakey head.
