Glen,
There is a huge difference between “rod (blank) finish” and “thread finish” and I am not certain to which you are referring. When referring to coating a blank, U40 PermaGloss has become the industry standard; it is a one-part, moisture-curing urethane which produces a very nice finish on blanks and some even use it for thread wraps as well. It applies very thinly to avoid excessive weight and can be generally recoated within one hour. Most rod builders and manufacturers alike employ two-part epoxy finishes for their thread wraps. Most, but certainly not all, are comfortable with the application-specific qualities of the two-part epoxy thread finishes. I have not particularly used ThreadMaster One but have used PG and numerous thread finishes, all with very good results for their intended purposes. Most of the thread finishes are variations on the same theme which requires some testing to find the one that suits your personal requirements and desires the best.

I have used it and didn’t care for it. Just seemed too soft once fully cured. I went back to regular Threadmaster but now use Gen 4

Tom
Do you find that the Gen4 takes longer to tacky-stage than TM - when I want to apply 2nd coat?
The specs say it takes 4 hrs. TM says 3 hrs - but it is really 2-3 hrs

The time it takes for any epoxy to set and/or cure is wholly dependent on the temperature. If the specs say "4 hours" that will be based on use at a certain temperature.

Herb I find Gen 4 almost the exact same as Threadmaster. Glen you will not need heat to eliminate the bubbles, it has the best release I’ve experienced

I am not sure if FTU is carrying it, you might check with Bingham or Get Bit

Last time I was in FTU off of I-10 two or three months ago, they only had Flex Coat and Threadmaster products.

I think Lance at Swampland was carrying the new Gen4 products.
