My son just broke his American Tackle 5ft 6in AMSP661-2 rod. He wants to build a new one, Does anyone have suggestions for other blanks? He cold use a 1 or 2 piece blank but he would like the fastest and lightest rod that he can build. He' an avid trout spin fisherman and broke it after landing a nice 4-5 lb rainbow but informed me he did it and not the fish. Thanks in advance. Re: UL rod blank

Revelation Revs 54UL-2 or 62 UL-2. One's a little short, the other a little long. I like the long one. Re: UL rod blank

Copy Lynn's recommendation. It is a good one. Re: UL rod blank

I also recommend the Revelation series based on my experience with their REVS610MLXF. Light weight, fast action, plenty sensitive, affordable, and durable in my experience. Re: UL rod blank

Good suggestions. Unless one really needs the short length for brushy streams, the longer rods will cast better, give better hook sets, and be more forgiving. Revelations are hard to beat. Re: UL rod blank

United Composites makes ultralights in all lengths and their durability ii's unmatched in a graphite rod if that's a factor due to age, or conditions of use. Re: UL rod blank

Thanks for your suggestions, We live in the driftless region of NE Ia and all of our streams are spring streams, less than 20 ft.,brushy and full of limestone boulders and outcroppings He favors the short rods and fishes mostly rooster tail spinners. Re: UL rod blank

A friendly suggestion for possible increased success, there is a similar lure called Bangtails, the willow leaf blade has a much more reliable spin. Not near the need to start the blade with a quick pull from the rod that at times decreases the success in smaller areas and pockets. Re: UL rod blank

I fish trout with ultra-light spinning gear almost exclusively. I like the Phenix Elixer 6 foot ultra-light. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
