15 years or ago or so I built several rods on blanks imported from Italy. Spine was big deal in those days, but these blanks were advertised as having no spine - and they were not far from wrong. I found absolutely NO advantage in accuracy from rods built on these blanks, nor did anyone else who used them. There aren't really all that many variables to cope with in rod-building. I expect the spine topic to undergo a popular resurrection before long. Re: Finding Spine

I have never built a fly rod, and am getting ready to build a 4 pc 9 foot 6 wt. How important is finding the spine on the butt section? I am not too concerned about the other 3 sections, but have read that it is almost as easy to break the butt section as it is to find the spine. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
