I am building a rod for a friend that would like a “Greatful Dead” lightning bolt logo on the rod. I have done a “marble” red/white/blue epoxy swirl on rear grip to butt area that turned out great. I tried to apply a sticker and epoxy over it, but kept getting the dreaded “lift” of the sticker as the epoxy made Its way underneath. Could I do something as simple as stencil, spray paint the logo over the marble area, and run another coat of epoxy? Would that work? Would I need to use any specific type of paint? Any guidance is appreciated!

One little trick that sometimes can make a big difference with decals.

Take the new decal with the plastic still over the top and wrap it on a small pencil or small dowel. Wrap it on two or three times to "train" the decal to fit on a round surface.

Then, apply the decal, make sure that it is well rolled down and apply the epoxy.

It works well to use a clean rubber ball or similar to roll down the decal to insure that every part of the decal is well attached.

Solid idea! Thanks for the reply Roger! I will file that trick away for the future. But let’s say someone no longer has the two stickers based on the two flailed attempts :). Would the original stencil/paint idea work?

Yes the paint stencil idea will work. I have used stencils and dry brush technique with acrylic craft paints with success, never tried it with spray paint.
