BH East Coast Surf Rod Guide Question

Hey fellas, so I’ve built plenty of rods but never a surf rod. I’ve got a BH East Coast 10’ medium (2-6oz) which I’m pairing with a Penn Slammer 5500 with 40lb braid. I was thinking NGC with KW30, KW25, KW12, 8 KW8 to an 8 tip. Does this seem right?

The 25 to 12 is a pretty steep angle, I’d throw in a 20 after the 25, then 12 to 8 runners. Make sure to test cast before wrapping them up.

Will do, thanks! I’m planning on static and test casting. How many runners would you use?

Al there’s a guy on you tube Lou Caruso he gives a good description on a surf rod build check it out if you are going to use the concept guide system you with need 11 guides plus tip and I would go with 30 butt to 20 16 then 8x10s with 10 tip as you might want to tie a fluorocarbon leader on so more clearance for an fg leader knot, let us know how you get on with the build as I fancy one of those blanks ????

Some progress, I already static and cast test the guides just need to spin them up. Bottom half is done, wishing I went gold instead of silver for the trim wraps, oh well
