Ok so I have a rod in the works I wanna build ,and I have been wanting to give a CTS blank a shot. I plan on building an 8 foot 2 piece rod ,in one of the blue colors. The fishery will be for schoolie stripers and halibut from the beach in California, average size fish between 6-10 pounds, and I want to have it be crisp, and have some butt to it. My question is what would be better for fishing smaller sp minnows and live bait rigs,up to once ounce, like a Carolina rig,and the occasional drop shot zoom fluke rig. I was looking at the Air or Jetstream blanks in say 8 foot with an 8-12 rating. Just not sure the differences between blanks. Thank you, again,I am always appreciative of you guys and your wealth of knowledge here. Best on the net! Re: About to build my first CTS

Robert,
I am not familiar with that style of fishing, but we often catch fish that size on our freshwater lakes using a medium action rod with a 6-10 rating with no issue. However, I expect that since you are blue water fishing you do want to have a bit extra in case one of th big ones come through? I don't know the distance you are casting, but if you have to cast a good distance are you better off with a surf style rod that is 10-12 feet in length. As I said, I know zero about your fishing conditions and fishery - just wondering. Take care Re: About to build my first CTS

Upon further inspection I may choose to build an air blank and a jetstream. I think I kinda answered my own question here. I'm excited. I have a feeling these blanks will exceed all expectations. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
