Gents, I’m picking up my original post and attempting to give it another shot at life. I think it died originally toward the end in a flurry of a great conversation on rod tip velocity. So my goal here is to get some thoughts on some blanks from some of the heavy hitter rod builders on this forum who might not have read my original post to the end and who have experience with Rainshadow blanks. So my apologizes in advance to all of you that did read it and just chose not to respond. Sorry.

So back to longer rods and blank selection..….I’m looking through the Rainshadow blank spec sheets. One of my “go-to” rods that I use for baitcasting is built on a IMMP70M Rainshadow blank. So here’s the question again….would rods of different lengths from the same model line, in this case the Rainshadow Immortals, generally have the same rod performance and CCS#s if the listed specs are close? Does each individual model line have a unique design characteristic about them that make them generally perform the same, regardless of the length, if the listed blank specs are almost the same? For instance, would the 7’ Immortal P70M (70 AA / 350 g IP) generally have the same CCS#s as an Immortal P76M because they are designed and built the same way? Both have identical line and lure ratings, action and power and have a few minor differences as one would expect with different length blanks.

Same question goes for the Revelation blank line. The 7’6” RevIP76M has almost the same specs as the ImmP70M I own but is there something about the Revelation line that would result in CCS#s quite different from the Immortal line? Same question for the RX6 line 7’ 10” SP943. Again, I’m looking for a starting point for a longer blank to build on with respect to CCS# on a blank that I have fishing experience with. I plan to have this same discussion with the guys at Batson as soon as I can. Gonna do the same with other blanks builders that I use for the application that I previously listed on the other thread.

In my experience, for a given manufacturer’s line and series of blanks with the same model number except for length, the longer rod tends to have a slightly higher IP number. In contrast, between a given manufacturer’s different lines and also the between different series within a given line (ie.Eternity line vs, Immortal line, vs Revelation line, and MB series, vs P series etc), blanks having the same listed length, power, and action ratings can vary quite a bit in IP numbers, and between different manufacturers it’s even worse. Since most manufacturers don’t list CCS numbers for their blanks, it’s a crap shoot trying to compare various blanks between the same manufacturer and between different manufacturers.
With that said, I have made a number of longer rods for reds and specked trout using 7’ 6” to 9’ Rainshadow RX7 salmon/steelhead blanks in the Medium to Medium heavy powers. NFC also makes some very good salmon steelhead blanks. They are both really nice blanks for what you want to do.
