Rod material seperating

I have a rod that has the outside fibers starting to separate lengthwise between the 4th and 5th guides. How can I stop this from happening any further? I was thinking maybe speed coat or epoxy. Thanks Sam

I would try wrapping first, then a thin coat of epoxy, ahead and behind of where it is separating.
Sounds like it has been damaged, so be aware that it might fail anyway.

Best wishes,

Sam,
Over the years I have seen a few clients rods with this sort of issue.

In each case, I did a tight thread wrap extending the wrap by 3/4 inch on each side of the changes in the blank. Then, a coat of thread finish on top and it was good to go.
As far as I know the rods are still in service.

Take care
