Locking or security wrap on Fuji KB & KT guides?
Posted by: Robert Dittert III (---)

Do y'all (you all), I'm from Texas, use locking or security wraps while using the KT & KB guides?

At the base of the ring and guide foot is very wide and I don't think the Forhan locking wrap would look right on these guides. I'm guessing a security wrap isn't necessary on the KB's with the arrowhead shaped foot, but I'm thinking would be advised on the KT's?

What do y'all recommend while using these guides?

TIA

Robert,
You can use any locking guide on any guide or not. It is all up to you.

If a guide foot has notches in the guide foot as some do, normally it is not necessary to do locking wraps, because the notches do a very good job to keep the guide secure.

I’m from Texas too.

I use (2) locking wraps on my KT runners. Not needed on the KB, they hold solid.

Thanks Roger.

I'll do the security wrap behind the KT guides. Don't think the Forhan locking wrap would look right on these guides.

Yes you can and I do. I have removed guides (KT & KB) from rods that I have built that did not have them and they were still difficult to remove. So I really don't think it matters but I am OCD and now I do it every time. Why is it that someone from Texas always say their from Texas and not the city they live in; like a pilot will always tell you he is a pilot or a guy who owns a Porsche will tell you he drives a Porsche, right off the bat. People will ask me if I'm German I will tell them I am an Amercan, but as you can see by the way I say American, I must be Texan.

The locking wrap done right is so easy and also unobtrusive that I use it on all single foot guides. Seems to me the biggest risk of guide problems is with the KLH's, and with those larger guides the locking wrap just disappears.

I use a locking wrap on all single foot KR guides. No problem with gaps, they look great. I do a locking wrap because I like them, but probably not necessary.

I'm up in the air on this topic, I do and I don't. If it's a skinny delicate tip section I'd rather the guide pull out than have the tip section break, although the tip may break either way if enough force is applied to pull a guide out. Fuji says they're not needed.

Right down the road.

I'm going to try the locking wrap on the KT's and see how it looks.

Locking wraps make final alignment more difficult for me. I can get them close enough to work fine but guide alignment is the first thing customer and potential customers look at. I go back and forth on this.
