With the amount of injected grips on commercial rods, I am wondering if there are any such grips available for the rod builder.

With the relatively short life of Winn grips, and the non suitability of EVA and Hapalon grips for some uses, I was wondering if the use of such injected grips as found on some of the commercial rods would make sense for the low volume rod builder?

For example, the material that is used in composition reel seats would likely be a good possibility for use as a rear rod grip. Just wondering if any of the reel seat companies would have grips available made of the same material? I have never seen any in my searches, but perhaps someone else has seen such items.

Somthing I have wondered about would be a 3D printed grip, could print custom ones with with logos names etc.?

Pacific Bay has done quite a bit of experimentation into 3D printed grips. They will have a couple booths at the Expo and you may be able to get more information from them at that time.

Actually, Ben, I was thinking of a grip that was made of one solid material in the form of a plastic type fluid injected into a mold and then removed and ready for use.

You may be correct; Roger could very likely have built a mold and is simply toiling with us lol. Ya know, I haven’t built a mold for quite some time and …… ?.?.?

how about preformed EVA grips..are they inject molded....(then a good flocking..lol.)

Saw a picture once of a St. Croix Mojo bass rod grip bare, looked like some kind of foam material on blank at the butt and reel seat than a shrink tube like material over that, this was a reverse engineering photo though of a Mojo grip being removed.

I'm currently building on a blank that St.Croix only offered built with the "Xtreme" molded grip package (SCV72MM). I wanted to avoid this particular factory configuration. The Legend Xtreme rods, that are built on blanks used in other Legend series, are far heavier. It seems that the difference in guide-trains would only account for a minor portion of this mass. There appears to be a lot of aluminum and other dense materials in those grips, both visually and in the specifications. You certainly could have an idea that would be lighter, though. Also, St Croix might be intentionally adding weight for those who like an unrigged, balanced feel.
