Has anyone built a rod using either of these blanks for catfish. Need to build several, main use will be open lake, casting 2 to 3 ounce sinkers plus bait, 20lb,or 25lb mono. Fish average 7lb to 15lb, with the occasional 15 plus.

Scheider's has a ISWB 945 swimbait rod blank that looks like it will do the job at a great price, being 2 inches shorter you may get a break on shipping costs also.

Those two are our typical recommendation for catfish blanks, though since you're throwing a little on the heavier side I'd recommend the RCLB79ML

James how much flex does the RCLB blank have, since it’s extra fast action is it going to be in the very upper half of the blank?

Thanks,

Butch, the SWB 80 ML might be one of the best all purpose blanks on the planet. Good price point as well.

Thanks Kevin, have you built any rods on using this blank, If so what were/are your thoughts, specifically flex. I built a rod on a different mod-fast, med-hvy blank and don’t like the flex in this particular blank.

Have the a similar question - looking at the SCLB70L for freshwater striped bass in the 15-25 lb range with 20 lb mono & live bait - curious on how "soft" the tip is and how much flex with the XF rating as there is importance in that fishing for the fish not to immediately feel the rod.... same for fishing the big cats (if not even more important)
