Customer likes to use 10lb mono. Will mono work as well in a "concept" style guide layout? Which guide train style works the best for mono?

KR works well with 4lbs mono on the trout rods I've used.
I can't be positive for 10lbs but I don't see why it wouldn't. And then you get the benefits : lighter tip, better preserving the blank's action, and better sensitivity.

I really see very little reason why a guide setup should be different for line.

The one exception might be for a spinning rod where the more limp braid might do well with a smaller stripper and 2nd guide on the rod.

I have used 10# mono on all my Concept builds for many years and have had no problem. My go to line is 10# Ande Monofilament , have been using it on baitcasters and spinning reels for more than 30 years.

I believe that mono guide layout will work fine for braid of the same pound test. BUT braid layout can use smaller first guide and be fine. That reduces weight and may make the braid slightly more efficient in casting distance due to less drag from unnecessarily large oscillations. Just my belief on this Q.

There can be a big difference between guide layouts for mono and braid. So much so that Fuji defines the KR Concept as a "BRAID" concept, not a micro concept. People often call KR a micro concept because the guides run much smaller than an NGC layout. The reason is that the limp castability of braid can easily be handled by smaller guides. I personally seldom recommend a 16 stripper for a KR Concept spinning rod because anything beyond 6# mono can become a problem through a 16. 10# braid, on the other hand, speeds through a 16 stripper just fine.

Not sure if you are talking about a casting rod or a spinning rod. If spinning I would certainly go with a KR concept set up using a KL20H based reduction train (KL20H, KL10H, KL5.5H) followed by KB/KT runners in the size you like. I personally prefer size 4.5 runners with two KB guides after the reduction train and the rest being KT guides to the tip. I think the KL20H stripper will work a little better with mono. The small runners reduce weight in the tip section, and the runners are the same whether you use a KL16H or KL20H based reduction train.
If a casting rod, the stripper size vs line type is not nearly as important. For the stripper you could use either a RV 6 or KW10, followed by either a KW5.5 or KB5.5. The runners are KB/KT guides in the size of your choice. I would used at least 3 KBs with the rest being KTs. The RV6 guide is more expensive since it only comes in a titanium frame.
