Sage 7140 X 4 piece Guide spec and spacing

Hello Gentlemen,
Broke out the rod wrapper, ordered supplies, etc and Getting back into Rod Building as it's been a few years. I ordered a Sage X 7140 14' 4 piece Spey Rod that I am converting to a float rod. Going with Fuji Black Titanium SIC guides. Starting off with a 20, 16, 12 and then running the rest of they way with size 8 and ending with Fuji KG Arowana Spin/Cast Tip Top size #7. I have had awful luck with Recoil guides with grooving on my last rod and really don't even like the look.
Two questions:
1. Is that a solid way to flow it out?
2. What is correct guide spacing for a 14'4 piece?

Take care,

Billy

Billy,
Excuse me if seeming ignorant but with your description of “converting to a float rod” coupled with using “Fuji black Titanium SiC guides…20, 16, 12 and then running the rest of the way with size 8 and ending with Fuji KG Arowana Spin/Cast Tip Top size #7” suggests to me you are attempting to build a 14ft spinning rod from a fly rod for use from a float tube. I will wait to hear confirmation from you that my assumptions are correct (or embarrassingly wrong) before continuing with my thoughts. Additionally, what is the weight (7?) of the fly blank, intended (spinning?) reel size and targeted species?

No worries. I'm actually converting a Spey blank into my Center Pin Float Rod. It's a 14' 7wt with fast action. Heard great things about this use of the rod. Several guys have done it and like I said it's supposed to be a Great set up. It's targeted for Michigan steelhead paired with a Zeppelin Center Pin reel.

Billy,
You have confirmed that I was ignorant to what you are attempting to accomplish. I am not qualified to assist you but hopefully fly-guys such as Phil Erickson, Herb Ladenheim and others will notice your post and reply. Good luck.

Guide sizes look fine. Spacing should be checked by a static test.
