On a smaller 6' Spiral Wrap rod, what is the probable size of the stripper and then size of the transition guides when 8lb test is the line to be used? Have not done one in a long time?

I usually go 6-5-4- then for runners (depending on build ) any were fro 3 mm down to 1.5 mm

The profound benefits (anti rod twist) of a spiral-wrap on an 8lb rod will be minuscule and possibly unwarranted compared to an 18lb rod let alone an 80lb rod but there is certainly nothing wrong with doing so. Steve G.’s guide size suggestion will certain work but consider the following. Many on this site are proponents of the Simple-Spiral which allows the line to rub the blank as it transitions from 0* to 180* (top to the bottom) of the rod. Many of those same proponents are advocates of keeping the line from touching the blank on conventional, guides-on-top builds = I fail to see the difference. If you are @#$%&-bent on the spiral-wrap, consider positioning/offsetting the stripper (maybe use a slightly larger one) and second guide so that the line passing between them just misses the blank by .030in rather than using a “bumper” guide which will hold the line (unnecessarily) further away from the blank. The third guide will probably be able to positioned close to 180*. This might be considered a modified “Revolver Spiral” (0, 60, 120, 180 degree) but where the guides end up more like 30, 140, 160, 180 degrees. With your rod being relatively short yet wanting to get the line to the bottom as soon as possible to reap the benefits of the spiral, make the transition in three guides somewhere around 35, 150, 180 degrees. If using a level-wind reel, line-stacking to one side of the reel will be noticed but minimal and if not a level-wind, your thumb would have to be employed to direct the line anyway. With the relatively light intended line weight, I am assuming a fair amount of casting will be involved. Without the line being able to touch the blank can only enhance casting performance.
While I do not consider myself as a novice / newbie anymore, none the less I am interested in the replies from the respected, long-term, veterans within this site. We all here to learn.
