I’m looking at building a new rod for bottom bouncing walleye with a live bait lindy rig setup. Usually drift/troll anywhere from.8 to 1.5mph with either a 1 or 1 1/2 oz bouncer. I want to stay with a 1 piece 8’ blank. Has anyone used the popping style blanks for something like this? I’m thinking about the Rainshadow REVIP80M-SB. keep in mind I will not be casting with this rod

I think you've picked a winner, you've find other purposes for that rod, they are great casters and very versatile.

We show one left of the earlier RX7 Rainshadow popping, 8', 1 pc, IP965.
That whole series has been popular for a variety of uses, both casting and spinning.
Anytime a slightly more moderate action with good backbone is wanted.
The IP965 has a suggested weight range of 3/8-1&1/4 oz

I have built a lot of walleye lindy rig type rods using the 7'6" ml blank from batson in one of their lines of blanks.

All have worked very well and all have been enjoyed by their owners in catching a lot of Walleyes.

The 7'6" m-l is a wonderful blank for the typical lighter lindy rig weights. Then, the same 7'6" in the m is a great blank if running a bit heavier weights.

Roger has the correct powers necessary for a good Lindy rod. Even my 3 oz. bouncers don't take a rod heavier then a 4 power popping blank. Schneider's has a 7 1/2 ft. Rainshadow 1 pc. 3 power, and a 3 power 2 pc. 8 ft. on sale. with the increases in shipping for rod blanks over 7 ft 10 in.they are an option.

I have built rods for lindy rigging/bottom bouncing using NFC Hot shot blanks. They turned out great. Built 3 of each three spinning and three spiral wrapped with bait casting reels. I like the Ambassador 5000 line counters.

I’m thinking of doing a spiral wrap too. Did you do a revolver, simple spiral? Also what size guides work with that setup?

Because the lighter lines and guides I use don't have to pass a knot, I can use any size guide I choose.

Spencer, would recommend a 3 or 4 power popping blank for 2 oz bouncers? Thanks.
