Rod Lengths for Specific Use

I have different lengths of rods that I like to use in different situations and I would like to know what lengths you like to use. For wade fishing in the bay I like a 6' 9" med Light rod but in the surf wade fishing I prefer a 7'3"-7'6" med to med light rod. In a boat I like a slightly longer rod in the bay at 7' med light- med. What have you found to be the best length for your intended situation? What lengths in a Kayak, boat or wading? The surf presents a few different situations as well as off the beach, wading in the surf, fishing off jetties and piers. What are your thoughts? A couple of videos I made a few years back.

I've been dying to ask this length question, looks like the appropriate time. Back when bass rods had pistol grip rods were LISTED shorter than most today rods.
Well, the reel seat is set further up the rod, is it really longer? Would measuring the rod from front of reel seat to tip be a truer length? Thanking all in advance.

Even if you change the reel seat location, yes the rod really is longer. The idea that any rod length behind the seat isn't used is false. Try cutting the rod off directly behind the seat and using it that way. You'll find out in a hurry that you use every inch of rod length in some way or another. Seat location does change the mechanics involved, but the entire rod is still in play, until and unless you have some portion of rod length that is completely behind any means of support or use.

What kind(s) of reels will you use with these rods, bait casting reels, fly reels, spinning reels?

I'm primarily a bass fisherman and use various length rods for different presentations. This said I prefer shorter rods than the younger guys. My finesse worm rods are 6' to 6'2", my big worm rods are 6'6", my spinnerbait rods are 6'6" to 7', my topwaters are 6'6". For small river kayak fishing, which I do a lot in the summer, are 5'6" to throw under trees.
