Hey everybody,
I was wonder what tools folks are using to make an Eva grip for a hidden hood reel seat? I haven’t attempted to fashion my own yet but I would like to learn how. I’m building a short 48” rod for my son (repurposed broken rod) and trying to keep it as inexpensive as possible by using material I already own. Any ideas are always appreciated.

I did mine with a burr in a Dremel tool, there are inexpensive hidden hood options out there.

Are you talking about how to shape the grip - or how to port it to accept the seat hood.

Dremal tool an set of diamond bits from a large 5 &10 store on the web . about a dozen for about $10 [ all different shapes ] should last a life time

Amazon bit set , SE diamond bits, 20 for less than $ 7 [ prime ] a set of 20 bits different shapes [ cheep ] there are better but these will last a long time [ they have for me ]

I do a lot of hidden hoods in cork.

When I cut the holes, I use a rotary file that is chucked into a variable speed drill. They work very well for this job.

I have a set of these rasps:

I also have a set of these rasps:

Using a combination of these rasps in a variable speed drill, it makes quick work of any necessary cutting into a grip for a reel seat fit.

I use a hole saw of a little bigger size than the seat hood. To make the hole smaller - grind off the "outer teeth" UNTIL it produces a hole he size that you need. Then I use smaller hole saws to enlarge the hole to accept the hood.

? do you use an all ready bored out cork ring and just enlarge it to fit the reel seat? Thanks Bill
