Hello,
I’m building this rod as a graduation gift to my college fishing clubs president, and the other members decided they want it to have recoil guides. I’ve never worked with recoils before, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a recommendation on how many/ what size to order. The blank is going to be a MHX mb874. I’m thinking using sz. 6 or 7 for the runners because they want a “semi-micro” style layout, but am unsure what guides to get for the transition area or how many runners. Any help would be great! Danny,
A guide is a guide is a guide. A size 6 recoil is essentially the same as a size 6 other kind of guide. Make your guide train the same as if you were using a different guide train and it will work out fine. Use size 6 or 5 for runners, and use a size 8 or a 10 for a stripper and you will be good to go. Really no reason to use more than two guide sizes on the rod. Take care Re: REC rsg recoil guide sizing/layout for 7’3” heavy casting rod

If you/they truly want a Semi-Micro style layout
Then I would not use runners larger then 4 mm to 4.5 mm max and would suggest 6 mm-5 mm-then 4 mm runners Any guide size above 4 mm effectively takes you out of the Semi- micro styles of bass rods With the 4 being the tipping from micro to long time standards for bass for guides. You can still make it a Semi-Micro layout by using- 6 mm-5 mm-them 3 mm running guides and improve the rods handling over 4-4.5 mm guides. While fulfilling their request of it being a "Semi Micro" set up, do to using the 6,5 mm guides Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
