Recommended guide train for Forecast Spey blank

Hi all. My friend wants me to build a Forecast F1338-4. Anyone have experience with this blank? He will be fishing steelhead with it on the trinity/klamath rivers. I have little experience fly fishing and have never built a spey rod. We have the handle set I just don't know if the stri[[er guide should be a snake or how many guides a rod like this needs. I want to make it a fishy reliable rod for him. Suggestions? Pitfalls? Thanks in advance.-Robert

Hi Robert,
Stripper should never be a snake guide - on any fly rod - except if you wish to on a # 0 wt rod.
I would use a #16 Fuji K as a stripper. Then a #12 Fuji - or any brand you prefer. Then either snakes or single foot REC Recoils for lightness - ending in # 4's . You may either use a progression for the runners. i.e. #6, #5, #4 - or - or - a # 5 then all #4's - or just all #4.
I would use a REC Recoil Tip-Top.

You could also check Batson's website for a "blueprint" for that blank, or call them for suggested guide train info.
