Hey all,

I have been asked to build a Jack Pole for Albacore fishing in Oregon. The specs are 8ft. pole, fast tip, x-heavy power.

If you know Jack Pole fishing, there are various sizes of polls, the longer polls are generally for commercial fisherman the shorter for sport fishing. I’ve pretty much exhausted the manufacturers that I know of for a blank, now I am asking if any of you know where blanks might be sold for it?

My last resort is to get a 10 foot shock rod and cut it down to 8 feet but I wanted to check here first.

Try Calstar or Seeker gaff blanks. When all else fails, go with cane/bamboo like the commercial guys.

I thought of gaff blanks but I know those are pretty stiff. I finally ended up referring him to a builder in Canada that has the blanks he wants and has built Jack Poles before.
