MHX SJ9000

Anyone can give some feedback on this blank? I want it for throwing hair jigs for smallmouth and whatever else I can utilize it for. I built the 9600hs last winter it’s alright but don’t feel it has the castability I thought when I made the purchase sight unseen. It has been a awesome split shot and finesse swimbait rod though.

The MHX SJ9000 is very similar to a hot blank. In fact MHX used to make a HS9000, which was exactly the same as the SJ9000. I have made rods on both. The SJ9000 makes into a very nice rod that will easily cast light jigs. The fast tip loads nicely and yet there is a lot of power in the butt section. I think it will work very nicely for what you want to do. If set up as a KR spinning rod using light braid to should cast exceptionally well.

I have built using the NSJ870-MHX and the NSJ871-MHX and they make excellent rods for hair jigs. I use 1/32-1/8oz and these blanks teamed with Nanofil line and you can pitch them long distance and they have plenty of backbone and length for setting the hook.

See you on the water, Doug
