Need A Blank Recomendation

Had a little incident this evening. Was not very happy with how my last build came it out. Was fishable but not my best work looks wise. Was moving along well with the rewrap. Decided to take a break. Got up from chair had some balance issues as I got up, been having some hip issues. Put my hand out quick to get my balance. Came down on the blank still clamped in my wrapper. Yep snapped it in two spots. First thought was order another blank and hope the ferrule matched good enough. Got a lot of work into the handle rather intricate reel seat insert and grip inlays. Worst case I would try and graft the handle to the new blank, like an extension grip. Well the blank is no longer offered. I suppose I could still try and use the handle on another blank. Lot of trial and error and guesswork and less than ideal performance in the end. So I am on the hunt for a new blank similar to what I had. Got a little better idea of what I want now after fishing the other rod all year. Would be happy with another of the same but there was room for improvement.
Looking for a 9ft light to ml spinning blank. Ideally a med fast action. Would settle for a mod action if it is truly mod, a lot mod actions lean towards the slow side in my experience. The blank I broke was MHX ST1081. Was a bit heavier than would be ideal and would like a touch slower action.Have looked over a lot of options and have a couple ideas. North Fork composites has several that will fit my needs but as much as I like their products I am not willing to roll the dice as far as delivery times. Last order was a no show after 10 weeks before I cancelled it.Would like to be fishing this rod new years day. Rod Geeks has their C2SS90LM2 which seems about ideal. Just unsure of how slow their moderate actions are. A little heavy weight wise. Might not balance the best without some extra weight in the butt. Rainshadow has their DSS1141-2. This is a 9'6" mod blank. Again unsure of their definition of mod. Could trim it back from the butt. But that might change the action too much if it is already on the soft side of mod. Any thoughts and suggestions on our appreciated. Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

How about the Rainshadow RX8 XST1082F, or the RX7 IST1082F.

Check the MHX dealers, they could have one. There's no definition of moderate, to me all the 1141's from GLoomis who developed the first one, to Pacific Bay, Batson, and every other one I've built on, have also been moderate. Low powered fly blanks are more moderate, but naturally lob cast, some in the midwest back in the day used them as many only had to only worry about hitting the water in their streams.
When I can build a 10 ft. float/drift rod on a NFC HM blank that weighs 4.2 oz. I'm not concerned about balance and would never add, or need to add a balance weight. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/11/2019 11:15AM by Spencer Phipps. Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

In my experience 90% of blanks - casting, spinning, fly, ultralight, popping, trolling, worming, snatching - you name it, 90% of these blanks have a moderate action for the task they are made for. Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

We have one left of the now discontinued Batson XST1141-F.
It will be faster than either the DSS or IST series, with a tad more backbone. Price is now $ 95.00, here is a link; [www.schneidersrods.com] Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

I have emails out to several dealers trying to track down a MHX.
Norman those rainshadows would be options. Seem like they fall more on the med side of ml based on lure weight. Ron what was the action rating of the XST1141-F? Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

I've tried the mhx, the rx8 and nfc's ST series.
Man, if Aleks says they've got the blank, I'd run for it. They are something else, really. _______________________________________________ If I'm not going to catch anything, then I'd rather not catch anything on flies. Prostaff Rodhouse [www.rodhouse.fr] Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

Ron just ordered that blank. Did some digging online. Found a lot of good things about the blank. Will fit my needs perfectly I think. Action was more important than power. Wanted Mod Fast preferably in a light power. Was looking like I was going to have to setup to ML to get the Mod fast action. Thanks for all the advice. Re: Need A Blank Recomendation

Got the blank today. It is perfect. This is what I had envisioned with the previous blank. Everything I would of improved about that blank is on this one. Thanks again Ron. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
