All epoxy hardeners will amber or yellow over time, even after you have applied the epoxy to the rod.
Keep in mind that the thickness in the bottle exacerbates the apparent depth of the amber. In a thinner amount, it's barely noticeable. ............. Re: ProKote Hardener

Dennis,
Yes, it will harden just fine. If you don't want yellow hardener, get a fresh batch. It will still turn yellow on the rod over a long time, but that is the nature of epoxy. I have done the same thing with epoxy paint. I have never had a can of epoxy pigment go bad or change, but every can of hardener has changed. I realize that and if I have stored the hardener for a long period of time, I will always purchase a fresh container of hardener if I am going to do another paint job with epoxy paint. In the case of bad hardener for epoxy paint, it is a case where the paint will not cure correctly when the hardener gets too old. But, easily solved with a new container of hardener. So, no big deal to do the same thing with rod finish epoxy. If the hardener is yellow, purchase a fresh container of hardener. Sure it will go yellow on the rod over time, but fresh hardener will give you a significant amount of time before the color yellows a bit.
