I recently acquired an 8' 4/5 wt hexagraph rod blank. I have built many graphite blanks and some bamboo. My question is how to prep the butt section for the reel seat and the grip? With traditional bamboo the butt section was milled down to accept the grip and seat. How do you go about it on a Hexagraph? I have waited years to find a blank and I don't want to mess up the build.. Thank you and any advice is appreciated. Re: Hexagraph rod blank

Are you using a pre-built grip or individual rings?
The easiest would be a carbon fiber grip with a foam core - but you will ruin the whole look. Herb Re: Hexagraph rod blank

I have several Hexagraphs that were built for me by Jim Clarkson of Raptor Rod Works, he built the
rods for both Walt Powell and later, Harry Briscoe. Not sure if Jim is still building, but you can contact Rich Morrison, he knows Jim. His email is Rich@classicpowellrod.com He might be able to help, or put you in touch with Jim. Also, although Hexagraph is no longer around, the website is still up. There is an email posted, graydrake@comcast.net That might work. Let me know if you succeed. Re: Hexagraph rod blank

You don't have to prep the rod butt any more than you would for normal water-break-free condition. You size the components to fit tight on the outsides of the hexagonal strips and simply glue the components up that way. If you want to get really precise - you can layer the section flats with strips of tape to create a more rounded overall shape.
