Alps triangle reel seat

PacBay recommends the triangle reel seat for size 8-12 rods. I am building a 6 weight. Has anyone used them on 5 or 6 weight rods, or are they just to beefy and heavy?

I dry fit one on a 5 weight once. Thought it too large. Sure wish there was a triangle seat appropriately sized for 4 - 6 weights.

Thanks, that's what i thought. I wish there were one for that size as well. They must make a special and smaller one for Epic fly rods.

Pac Bay talking about another companies product that they don't sell is a bit odd.

Guys around the office like the size 12 triangle just fine for a 5 or 6 wt. It comes down to personal preference.

I really like the look of the Alps triangle seat but they are heavy to me. The Alps HERA7WL2 is my go to reel seat choice. It is light, narrow and good looking. I have made a few rods with them and they have held up well.

My bad, James! Damn. I of course stand corrected, as I meant to say Batson/Alps and not PACBay. My apologies to your fine company for my confusion. I do love the looks of the Alps Triangle reel seat. Stunning. Maybe single nut version in the future for us 3-6 weight trout anglers. By the way, I just purchased one of your Rainshadow Eternity2 fly rod blanks. Wrapping it up next week.

No worries, Pac Bay is right down the street from us ;)
You can of course always take a nut off of a reel seat too. We use the triangle a lot for our spin gear rods, it is comfy.

Even if you take a nut out, you're still looking at a hefty 38 grams or so. I just put one on the Eternity 1064 because it's less of a problem for long euronymphing rigs to have some weight on the butt.
But I agree with the others. I love the TRI, the quality and design is outstanding, but you really should have one in size 10 with a reasonable weight.
