Can anyone provide expert information on Cape Fear rods. I am a custom builder in SW Florida and one of my clients presented me with what he claims to be a Cape Fear hextec rod. the rod is 7'6" long, with purple windings and the rod blank appears to be in the 10 -20 ;lb range. It has hghi frame Fuji alconite guides. The logo and rod specifications were removed so If anyone knows what the model number of the rod maybe I would appreciate your help and suggestions about refurbishing it

I never saw a Cape Fear that wasn't trimmed in black and gold, but I'm no expert, sounds custom built.

Jim, I only have info on the Bluewater Series. There are 10 blanks in this series ranging in size from 5'1" to7' two seven footers are listed and the one closest to your description is a #BW1425SP70B ,14-25 lb., 9 tip, .6665 butt, blank ID D89 (?) Do you think this blank was extended to make the rod 7'6" or it could be from another series. I'm getting this info from an old Merrick Tackle catalog.(2004)
The only time I worked on one was to duplicate a factory wrapped rod and that was trimmed out in teal.

I built the prototype models for Hextec. I wrapped them in black and gold but did not follow up on what the production rods used for thread colors.

I might be mistaken but pretty sure Ernie Horvath and his son both worked for Cape Fear for a time. You can track Ernie down on Facebook...I bet he could tell you more. Hope this helps.
