What reel and what size reel are you going to put on it? What type of line are you going to use? Braid or mono? I like the grips to be small on the butt section to keep it light and not so bulky. I use the heat shrink from a few of the rod component companies.

Yes, i will be using shrink tube, but what kind of EVA handle to get it flush on top and bottom of the reel seat

I wouldn't use any type of EVA , you order a reel seat that fits snug to the bottom section of the blank , i believe i used a 17 or 18 size DPSM on the 2 piece Rod Geeks surf blank i built , fit nice and snug. You then have a shrink wrap foregrip and butt section .

Many people when building a casting surf rod do like a short rear grip of cork or EVA, because they hold the grip and not the reel seat. The length of this rear grip is of your choosing, probably between 3” to 5”. The rest of the rear section of handle could be cork tape, shrink tubing, or nothing. EVA, like cork, can be trimmed to length, sanded to shape, and reamed to fit the blank. You are using a low profile casting reel, so If you are going to be using a trigger reel seat figure out the seat ID needed to fit your blank at the point where you want the seat and then match the the OD of the grip with the OD of the fixed hood on your trigger reel seat. Use the smallest reel seat that will fit, but remember that It’s better to have the ID of the reel seat a little larger rather too small. You can shim the reel seat in place using a few turns of drywall tape if needed. Sanding the rear grip will give you a custom fit.
