I'm a very new rod builder, and am considering my next build. I'd like to build a 2-piece, 9-9.5 ft. Musky rod (M-MH), but am having a hard time finding high end 2 piece rod blanks. I'd like it to have a 70/30 split if possible. I know many Japanese rod makers have excelled in building 2 piece rods, but I don't know any Japanese blanks that are available for import. Any ides? Hello Dennis - Here are a couple of links to MHX Surf blanks that we've had customer use, when needing two piece musky rod blanks. They are a equal 50/50 split for the ferrule - [www.mudhole.com] & [www.mudhole.com] - Thank You Bob McKamey Mud Hole Custom Tackle bobm@mudhole.com Re: Attempting a 2 Piece Musky / Swimbait Rod

Depending on your intended lure weights, Rainshadow may have what you need. Another possibility are the United Composite blanks. They make some with the 70/30 split. Those are designed for throwing. Surface iron for West coast gamefish. Those jigs can weigh up to around 5 or 6 ounces. Batson blanks are quality products. Re: Attempting a 2 Piece Musky / Swimbait Rod

Check out the Bushido 3k blanks. Only 8'6" but I'm sure they could be extended. Re: Attempting a 2 Piece Musky / Swimbait Rod

Lamiglas has the most variety and the most reviews. Re: Attempting a 2 Piece Musky / Swimbait Rod

I've seen some of the suggested models:
United Composites Sidewinder Bushido Warrior MHX Lamiglas I like them. i also like the Black Hole Nano. If were to cut a surf rod from 10 feet to 9 feet, how would that affect the action and rating? Re: Attempting a 2 Piece Musky / Swimbait Rod

I assume your talking off the butt, action will slow and you'll lose power. Re: Attempting a 2 Piece Musky / Swimbait Rod

You may want to look into surf blanks as they are usually fairly close to a musky blank, I have a friend that uses surf blanks quite often for musky blanks. [rodgeeks.com] I also just built a rod on the [www.rainshadowrodblanks.com] REVSU90M from Batson and it seems like a really good Bucktail rod. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
