2-Piece Twitching Blank
Posted by: Denham Bruce (---.hsd1.wa.comcast.net)

As the title states I'm looking for a 2-piece blank that I can use to "twitch" jigs or basically just jig for salmon. The ideal specs for such a rod are 7'6"-8' long rated 3/8-3/4oz or 3/8-1oz as the typical jig weight is right around half an oz and the kind of blanks that typically have these specs are popping rods and hotshot blanks. For whatever reason finding a blank with these specifications is near impossible. Only one I've been able to find is a popping blank from Anglers Workshop but the blank color is teal... :( If anyone knows of a blank out there that is again 2-pieces I would be more than happy to hear about it!

Thanks, Denham

Thank you but a 9ft rod is a bit long for my taste when fishing this technique.

Ron gave you good advice, I see more and more people using longer rods some 9+ in lenght. The technique came from Alaska and here the most popular rods used by the natives are the lengths you mentined. Much easier to brush pop with. Ron's blank are 8 1/2 ft long like all the 2 piece hot shot rods, by the way that blank makes a good salmon drift rod also.

I've already got many 9'+ drift and float rods that I've been twitching with. I do a lot of bass fishing and have learned that a shorter rod is easier on the arm when jigging all day.

You might want even shorter then.
The "SB" line are fast action, and have 3 pc blanks available.
Here is a link;

We also have one left of the SB845-3CG, 3/8-1 1/4 oz, 12-25#, 3 piece @ $ 60.00.

I thought you were looking for longer blanks at first.
I believe you are on the right track, shorter and lighter rod weight is better for all day jigging.

Denham Bruce - If a 1/2 oz jig is typical, here is a link to a MHX Popping Blank that is 7'-^" and 2 pc. - [www.mudhole.com] - Thank You

I personally use a G LOOMIS HSR9000-2S IMX, and the 3pc GLX version. Worth buying for their versatility on dozens of other situations and species, especially the IMX, the GLX is considerby stiffer especially the tip.

I wouldn't have much of a problem finding a factory rod but they are all spinning so thought I'd tie one up in casting.

Bob, I already tied up an MHX P904-2 and an L904-2. The popping blank was a bit too light in the tip and the other blank was much too stiff for what I was looking for so I had to sell them off. Actually still have that L904-2 if anyone wants it!!

If can't find a longer blank you like, don't be afraid to go 7 ft , casting distance will no be an issue and sensitivity goes up with lighter, shorter rods. My rod I use when Chinook are around is a MHXF bass blank.

I may have a 2 pc, 8 ft. 2 in. blank at home rated 8 - 20 lb line, made by Lamiglas. Not at home to look.

7ft is just too short for what I'm used to and what I wanna use it for. I'm going to be throwing spinners with it too in close quarters so would prefer a slightly longer rod than 7ft with a mod-fast action.

I'm going to see if I can get a hold of Talon blanks and see if I can get one they sell in there catalog.
