If you can get away with it, longer is better. Re: 6'6 or 7'0 fly rod

Spencer is correct - longer is nearly always better.
Rods less than 7' can be a challenge to cast, especially when making roll casts. Thus on a small stream with lots of vegetation waiting to grab an overhead or side arm cast the roll cast is frequently your best friend. The question is less which is better, 6'6" or 7', and more with which can you better make the casts you need to make. I've a 6' 9" Garrison 4 weight which is a real joy to fish. But if I'm on a really limited space stream where there will be more roll casts to be made make than anything else I'll grab an 8' Winston that works far better for me making those roll casts. Your milage might vary. Re: 6'6 or 7'0 fly rod

I fish several short rods, all are Fiberglass, and range in lengths from 6' to 7'-3", 2/3wts to 5wts. Where I use them depends on water flows, size of patterns I am going to use, and size of the stream. Most of the time its Brook Trout water in NY and VT.
A 6'-6" to 7' 2/3wt Glass is a lot of fun on smaller creeks, Fiberglass with its deep flexing action will load up much easier than a Graphite at very short distances, they also roll cast like a dream. There are several blank manufacturers that offer Glass in the size and line weight you are looking for. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
