Planning to build spinning rod for "scandinavian worm fishing" on this blank.
Have not been successful to find a setup for guide spacing for this. The blank is Discontiuned, 11'3 Medium fast. Also, the tip is listed as a 5 tip, while other old web documents indicate a 5.5 tip. Any details on this blank would be appreciated. - Occasional amateur rod wrapper - Re: Rainshadow ISA1355F - Guide spacing setup for spinning

Audun,
You can take a look at the "blue prints" for these Rainshadow Salmon rods. [www.batsonenterprises.com] In particular, take a look at the guide sizes and spacing for the last three blanks listed. These salmon blanks will be somewhat similar to the blank that you are using for your rod build. The last three blank blue prints are for a 10 foot rod and the last two for a 13 foot rod. The key part of these blue prints is the first three feet of blank length from the tip. Since these blue prints are for salmon blanks which are likely to have a bit slower action than the fast action that you have for the build, you may need to make the top three guides just a touch closer together. But, it is easy enough to get the final layout for the guides. Once you have your grip and reel seat in place, you can install the reel that you want to use and then with the guides taped in place with masking tape for the potential placement, thread the line through the guides. Then, bending from the tip - I just press the tip of the rod against the ceiling and load the rod by pulling back on the reel. This gives the rod the shape of the loaded blank. Then, take a look at the line flow as you observe the line flow on a tight line, as you have the blank loaded. You are looking for enough guides and guides in the correct places to insure that the line is essentially following the shape of the loaded blank. If you find that you have a space between two guides that have a large space between the blank and the line, you need to move and or add a guide to have the line flow so that it matches the line is matching the contour of the loaded blank. But, if you start with the build blueprint for the last or the 3rd to the last rod in the series listed above, you will have a pretty good head start on where you will finally end up. With respect to the tip - just pick up a size 5 tip and a size 5.5 tip. Use the tip that fits. i.e. if the 5 tip fits, use that tip. However, if you have to go to the 5.5 tip, to get it on the tip of the rod blank, use that tip. You can also use a caliper to measure the tip. Tip sizes are measured in 64th of an inch. In your case a size 5 tip = 0.0781 inch. In your case a size 5.5 tip = .0859 inch. Best wishes Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
