I built a 6-piece, 7ft, pack-rod (yes, a vintage FG Conolon if you can imagine that) with a Tennessee Handle to accommodate either a spin or fly reel and typical KL-H 16 down to KT 5 with a LG 5 top. While obviously set-up more for UL spinning, will the guides be large enough for 3-4 weight fly line? While I realize the selected guides may not be optimum for fly use, it is my understanding spin guides will work better for fly fishing as compared to the inverse. I know dittly-stink about fly line other than it is considerably larger in diameter than mono or fluorocarbon. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! The inside diameter of the guide will determine this. Keep in mind that ceramic guides are measured from outside to outside of the ring, so you're interior space may be smaller than you think. By the same token, 3-4 weight fly lines are not terribly "fat." Go cast it and see how it works.

I'd wager half my lunch money the guides are OK for the line. It's the fly line to leader knot that will potentially be the problem. Loop-to-loop connections are all the rage these days for line to leader and they are convenient. But a well tied, old fashion nail knot just might pass where a loop-to-loop is challenged.
