I am sure this has probably been addressed, but curious on how others square their wraps to the blank when wrapping a guide.

I use my packing tool and slowly turn the blank and apply pressure to the end.

If you need extra security for that, wrap 3 turns of masking tape around the blank. Start your wrap tightly and pack the first few thread turns tightly against the tape.

I use my thumbnail as I wrap also and I have never had a problem.

John,
Whenever I start a wrap, I start down the blank from the guide and put on 10-15 wraps. Then, I stop the wrapper, and grab the tag end, and pull out the first 10 wraps or so that I have made, getting the remaining wraps tight and nice and square. Then, by keeping about a 10-20 back angle on the wraps from the thread source as I power wrap, the rest of the blank and guide is quickly wrapped. No need to pack the wraps or change any angles, because the wraps are tight, square and tightly packed.

But, just use the method that works best for your particular method of wrapping blanks.

Best wishes
