Paracord grip

All of my bigger rods have paracord grips. How are these attached? I would assume the epoxy is put on the blank then the cord wrapped on the still soft epoxy but I am not certain.

You can wrap them first, then apply a coat of urethane or similar and it will soak down to the blank and adhere the cord. Lots of ways to do this.
