Newbie - Black thread issue

Hi all
I'm looking for a bit of help and advice. Whenever I use black thread and apply a finish it always ends up looking a blue/grey colour under natural light, and when compared to factory fitted guides in black thread they stick out like a sore thumb! I'm using prowrap 862 black.

Greg,
are you using the color fast 862? if so that is the problem, if you want the jet black you should use the "Regular Nylon" 862.

Todd

Todd is absolutely correct, use the regular thread.

Thank you all for your superfast responses. I was using the nylon but color preserving because of the coloured end wraps. whereas I should (obviously!) use nylon black and colourfast colours so that I need no color preserver at all!

Another way to get really black black even with CP is to use Pro Wrap metallic black.

Just use standard thread for both the black as well as all of the other colors.

Check any thread for color change by wetting down a test wrap with alcohol. The color with the thread wetted with alcohol will be the final color of the thread with no color preserver.

If you want a specific color on the rod, when not using color preserver go with lighter and lighter colors until you get the desired effect of color with no thread preserver on the thread.

Be safe.

Alcohol changes the color, but it doesn't replicate the transparency factor that finish adds.

Agree with David, it somewhat replicates the color, but not exactly. And misses the transparency, or what I think better describes it, the vibrancy of the final finish. Metallic black doesn't change with alcohol, finish, CP or not. It's really black and it has a nice sheen.
