Gentlemen, what would be the maximum mono/braided line weight and lure weight you would consider building a steelhead/salmon/light surf spinning rod using PacBay Model M with ceramic insert, Model M Minima, Model FX with ceramic insert and Model F Minima?

I have Rainshadow RX7 9' blank that I am going to build up using 30-40lb braided mainline and 1.5oz lure weight.

I think you need to reveal what the ratings on your RX 7 blank indicate since that will steer you in the right direction as to what are the best choices with the other stuff . Are you saying the blanks max lure weight is 1.5 ounces ?

Sounds like you may be using the ISA1086, I would use a double foot high frame stripper guide, the rest except the M frame guide would work well with no problems, and have been doing so for decades. The factory spinning model heavy salmon rods built by G Loomis rods and Lamiglas come this way and are a favorite with Alaskan guides.

I built a IST1204F with the Minima M frames into the Minima F's and it works great. Not sure you necessarily need a double foot stripper but you could do it. I've used my rod a lot mostly in the salt water and the Minima guides have held up perfectly.

Can you comment on ring insert durability?

For me light SW, is fishing for perch and stripers on the beach.

So the M with ceramic inserts would be my choice.

I built my rod for the same purpose and it's a blast for that as long as you're not catching big stripers. I throw a lot of weightless flukes, light swimbaits and Carolina rigs. It's my favorite rod for halibut from shore because it throws quarter oz swimbaits really well. I went with the chrome inserts strictly to keep the weight down on such a long light blank. Going on 4 years with a lot of use and no issues. I can't speak for the ceramic rings but I'm sure they would work great.

Now wait just a minute Brian , so the rod is not suitable for big stripers but is suitable for Halibut from shore ?

I have seen Halibut that would eat a striper for lunch . Whats going on here ?

Haha I guess that's a fair question. Where I fish I'm typically getting a lot more short halibut than keepers (22") and when I get a keeper it's extremely rare for it to be over 24-25". Halibut that size from shore fight like a turd. I also practice c&r on stripers so I want to land them quickly for a higher likelihood of survival. So basically I use it for halibut because it works well throwing light lures from shore and I'm not catching anything big, if some how I did that's fine I'm keeping it anyways. I'll use it for stripers when I'm fairly certain I'm just going to be catching schoolies.
