Getting ready to purchase a new Power wrapper and would like to hear from those of you who own either the ALPS upgraded chuck or the RBS -Pro Power wrapper. Which do you find is the better quality and are the chucks identical? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Alps stuff is always top shelf imo so i would choose the ALPS but the RBS looks very good also especially the brand new stuff, ( Why you're very unlikely to here much feedback) that recently came out but if it was noticeably cheaper i might take a gamble.

Ken,
It would appear that the Alps and the RBS chuck are virtually identical. i.e. both very high quality.

The alps wrapper uses a straight sided base that is very similar to the Taig Industrial chuck and base. However, the RBS base is spread out to allow for the mounting of the motor under the chuck. By having the motor under the base rather than out past the end of the chuck as is the case with the ALPS unit, the RBS unit gives the user another 5 or 6 inches of usable wrapper length if this is an issue for you.

Either one would do a good job for you.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply! Taig is the word I’m looking for. That is a quality chuck. Would have purchased one of these but with all
the components needed to complete the “setup” it would cost a great deal more.

I have been using a Taig chuck for many years for my rod building and could not be happier.

Alps has dryer motor also 3 speed pulleys and you can slide thread carriage alone full track. RBS looks as if its stuck between support brackets.

Gentlemen

Might I offer a third option that has been used and loved by the OEM class of rod building for decades.

Our DL713 and DL747 offer a direct drive shaft, made in America motor with foot control that lasts and lasts, guide alignment board that allows you to lock your rod in positions and sight down directly over your rod to place your guides in perfect alignment with guide foot adhesive, a duel thread control board with sewing industry standard tension devices, and either V-uprights with the DL713 or fluid motion, slot wall mounted, spring loaded roller supports that are up and out of the way for seamless control board movement with the DL747.

John,
I certainly agree that your chucks really work. I have several that I use for different uses and have never had one fail or a rod come out of the chuck.

Yes your right Roger. I have the flex coat slip clutch and use it with my ALPS chuck on an American Tackle power wrapper. Great combination and Never has rod come out of the FC slip clutch, not to mention all the other advantages of that clutch !!!!
