Sealing deep scratches in Fuji SK2 foregrip

I just purchase a used rod, and unfortunately, didn't see that the foregrip on the SK2 reel seat it came with has some fairly deep and sharp scratches right where I'd normally rest my fingers. Is there a popular way to resolve this issue? I'm thinking of sanding down the edges and maybe sealing with a light epoxy? Thanks for any direction you can provide.

Only thing i can think of is shrink wrapping over the piece , Mudhole sells shrink in a wide variety of colors and diameters , you would only need a short piece . I sometimes use Plasti Dip liquid rubber for stuff like this as well , you can pour it on , dip it , brush it on or spray it on . As you mentioned sanding isn't a bad idea either.

I would sand just enough to remove sharp edges and fish it. No need to seal it.

Josh,
You can use the same technique that is used to take care of scratches on a boat.

First, completely clean the rod and grip using dawn soap and a toothbrush.

Let the rod dry, then, have epoxy glue and clear sealing tape on hand and tooth picks.

The technique is to apply fill to the scratches with just enough glue using a toothpick to fill the scratch and not any more than that. Then, use the clear sealing tape to insure that the epoxy is level and not too much to overflow the scratch. Let dry, remove the tape and sand with 600 wet and dry paper used wet. If done correctly the scratched location will be level and you will not be able to feel any difference in the grip when holding it. i.e. not too low, not too high - as Goldilocks would say, "Yes, it is just right. "

The reason to use the clear sealing tape, is that the tape is transparent and you can see through the tape and verify that you have exactly the correct amount of epoxy to fill the scratch without over flowing into an adjacent area of the grip. If, after applying the glue and tape, you find that you have too little or too much, you quickly remove the tape, remove the epoxy with an appropriate solvent and start over. Continue to do the process, always using freshly mixed glue until you get it perfect to not require any significant sanding after the tape has been removed.

Best wishes

Are you talking about scratches in the reel seat or the fore grip? Casting or spinning grip? Moveable hood side or fixed hood side? Fore grips for the SK2 seats are either EVA or cork and don’t get sharp edges when scratched, so I suspect it’s the reel seat you are talking about. Let us know so we have a little more information to help you.
