I purchased the above blank from Mudhole and it was delivered with the top (tip) 2.25in broken off in the plastic packaging sleeve. Cudos to Mudhole , as they replaced it based on the photo I sent in. So I am now left with the broken tip blank at 7'6 and 3/4 to build. Any thoughts on how or if the performance may change?
Thanks,
Rick Elrod

A bit slower action. A 1/2" broken off the tip is noticeable so 2" or more will be very noticeable. I am thinking new bait rod.

Article from library above. From my experience it can be repaired and the power and action will be essentially unaffected. The weight at the tip will be a little higher, so the frequency will go down, but I've never noticed either the weight gain or frequency change as a problem. Done right it should fulfill its original planned function very well.

I agree that if you simply put a tiptop on the blank at the break, you probably will not like it.

On a shorter fast action blank 2.25 inches would be very noticeable but on a longer more moderate action like that CB 78 it will be noticed but not nearly as much. I think it would still make a very usable rod but maybe for a different application such as popping or punch bait on a treble hook for channel cats.

How much did the tip size increase?
