6 0r 7 pc fly blank

Gents:

Some years ago I bought a Cabelas-labeled blank that was 6 or 7pc 9' for 6wt. It travels beautifully in my carry on bag for travel.

I'm now looking to build something similar in a 4 wt.

Problem is I cant seem to find anyone who makes a blank in more than 4 pieces. (4-pieces is too few - the collapsed rod too long)

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Cabelas still has the 7pc Stowaway rods for sale.

If you Google 7 piece fly rod blanks you will find some sources.

Some time ago there were telescoping fly rods on the market. If you look around there may still be some for sale?

I have a spare zippered nylon covered rod tube left from a Cabelas Stowaway 7

Thanks everyone for your comments. Especially Gary for his kind offer. As far as the rod tube for the existing Stowaway rod goes, I have it in an innocuous homemade PVC tube which fits in my briefcase, and the rod itself is rolled up piece by piece in a handkerchief that doubles as a neckerchief in sunny environments.

I pursued most of the various leads. Its astonishing to me that there are not more options out there, especially given the application of a travel rod that will fit in your suitcase or your roller-board. 4-pc in a 9' just doesn't cut it ( I have a number of these ranging from 5-wt to 10-wt, majority of which are Batsons), as you have to burn up one of your luggage allowances (whether for a checked bag or a carry on/personal item) just to carry a rod separately. Having a separate rod case also exposes you to more risk of theft. So the portability is a critical factor for a fishing/no fishing decision for foreign travel: a binary decision.

Anymore I make rods for my own needs or as gifts for friends, so don't particularly need the fanciest out there. Just something workable and practicable.

So how I rolled on this was to buy a Chinese pre-made rod 8 piece over the web, for less than half the price of the Cabelas Stowaway (also Asian made), and will try it out. If it doesn't pass muster, the kids or grandkids will wind up with it. At that price it was also a fraction a price of the (probably Chinese) 4 piece blanks more generally available. And I have a real fishing/no fishing option for my next trip.
