Hello - I wasn’t paying attention this morning and used U-40 cork sealer on my thread wraps instead of color preserver. My inclination is to let them dry and finish them like I normally would. However before I do that, I would like to understand if the cork sealer will interfere with the finish coat? At this point, I’m not worried about preserving the color.
Thanks in advance! Re: Help - I used u40 Cork sealer on my thread wraps instead of color preserver

While I have no experience with this, what I would do is first put CP onto the wraps, then put the epoxy finish on. It seems logical that CP on the U40 would not be a problem, and we know that epoxy on CP is not a problem. Re: Help - I used u40 Cork sealer on my thread wraps instead of color preserver

Cork Seal is just a water based poly, like Minwax polycrylic. I'e tested that as a CP, and there is no issue with epoxy, but it does darken the threads more than a CP like Chromaseal. Here's teh test I ran 12 years ago before Chromaseal was available, the Minwax was teh second worse out of these when it came to colro retention.
