Broken rod

I will skip the story and get to the point. Is there any way to fix a break right at the fore grip? So that the rod will perform to original. Thanks in advance

I know you can place another blank up in there but performance will NOT be same. Maybe a more seasoned builder can chime in ..

A smaller diameter blank that will fit inside the original blank will most certainly be of lower power than the original and a poor choice, an oversleeve, especially in the butt section would be my choice. You'll have to strip the rod to do the job probably to incorporate the overlap necessary over the original blank for a good end result.

I have already stripped the handle. Just wasn't sure if was possible to get the original results. Thought would bounce this off you guys before proceeding

Mitchell

Either method, internal plug or over sleeve will work.

Since most of the action is in the upper portion of the rod and the re pair is at the fore grip I doubt that the change in performance will be that noticeable.

Repair it and fish with it and over time you will forget that it was repaired and only the visual reminder will be left.

Have fun

John

I agree with John regarding minimal performance change.

what ever repair you make it will work very well for you , you will not be able to tell , & the repair plug INT. or EXT
if you don't have a section the local 2nd time store should be able to get you a old rod to fill the need , I think

Best place to have a rod break. The repair will have little effect on it’s function. Either an internal plug or external sleeve will work. If you don’t have a stash of broken rods, you can go to your local fishing tackle or sporting goods store and see if they have any broken rods that have been returned. Many times they will give them to you when you explain what you want them for. Can also try thrift shops and flea markets.

Thanks for all the helpful tips. I put a sleeve over it and rewrapped the buttwrap. Added an additional wrap under the tie off wrap and the sleeve is barely noticeable.
