Yes, just look at it. Sounds simple and it is. Line up each set of centers and count how many there are. If the wrap is made on two axis, there will be two sets of centers 180 degrees opposite each other. If the wrap is made on four axis, then you will have a set of centers each 90 degrees apart. So on and so forth.

yes i bought that app, i look at the patterns i have printed and the drawing of the finished design, and i just get lost trying to guess if the number of axes it has. wish i could explain it better, the instruction have a drawing with 1 of the patterns as it adds each thread, along with the size it should be in mm

here is where i have gotten some patterns, [hmcustomthreads.com]
as you can see the pics dont tell very much to me.

thank you everyone for the help

Do you have? Clemens Custom Rod Thread Art, Book?? If so reference it. If not get an copy of it, As it will clear up a lot of questions, I found it invaluable. I build freshwater so, Not a-lot of demand for fancy wrap's, Like Salt. [books.google.com]

Don't over think it. All the patterns on that sites opening page are two axis layouts, one on top and one on the bottom. Are you confusing a pattern repeat with axis?

i might be, so 1 thread down and back will give one on top on on bottom(2axis), turn the rod 90 add another thread(4axes), and i get all four sides with the pattern, is this the way to figure it out.

You got it!! If you are using those patterns, stick with a two axis for your first couple of attempts. You will quickly see how fast space fills up and some of those patterns may be to large to do on 4 axis. Again, good luck. The Clemens book is a good resource.
